New Directive 2007/38/EU: Mirror retrofit on commercial vehicles
To prevent severe, often deadly accidents with pedestrians and bicyclists when commercial vehicles make turns, on 11 July 2007 the EU Parliament and the EU Council passed a directive to mitigate the hazardous area ("blind spot") in commercial vehicles starting from 3.5 t. Backfitting and retrofitting mirrors with improved curvature radii on the driver's side is intended to make the blind spot visible (conversion deadline 31 March 2009).
